What is a tyrosinase inhibitor + why do we care?

If your considering laser, IPL or deep medical peel treatments to tackle your skin concerns, its important to understand the role of tyrosinase inhibitors in your pre treatment skincare routine. Why do we prescribe a product that is a tyrosinaise  inhibitor and why is it so important?

Tyrosinase is an enzyme that plays a key role in the production of melanin, which gives our skin its colour.

During laser treatments, laser targets melanin in the skin to break up pigment and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and melasma.

A tyrosinase inhibitor is a skincare ingredient that helps block the production of melanin within the skin. By using a tyrosinase inhibitor prior to your advanced treatments, it can help reduce the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and adverse reactions whilst achieving more effective results from your treatments.

Some examples of tyrosiniaise inhibitors include kojic acid, vitamin c, arbutin, liquorice root extract and niacinamide. Our go to tyrosiniaise products we generally prescribe by Lira Clinical are BIO Hydra C or Pro Lite and in iSClinical we prescribe Pro Heal, Brightening Complex and Brightening Serum

In summary, using a tyrosinase inhibitor in your pre treatment skincare routine will help reduce the risks of post-inflammatory pigment and improve the effectiveness of your laser or IPL and peel treatments.
